Clinical Hypnotherapy

What Is Clinical Hypnotherapy?

Clinical hypnotherapy is a gentle, client-centred approach that uses focused relaxation to access the subconscious mind—the part of you that stores deep habits, beliefs, and emotional patterns.

Unlike the myths of stage hypnosis, clinical hypnotherapy is a collaborative process. You remain fully aware and in control throughout. The process simply guides you into a relaxed state where your mind may become more open to new insights and ways of responding.

What Can Hypnotherapy Support?

People use clinical hypnotherapy to support emotional wellbeing, behaviour change, and inner clarity. It may help with challenges such as:

  • Feelings of anxiety, overwhelm, or stress

  • Emotional responses related to past experiences

  • Fears and phobias (like flying, public speaking, or social discomfort)

  • Low confidence or self-worth

  • Unwanted habits or emotional patterns

  • Trouble sleeping or switching off

  • Navigating change, loss, or emotional flatness

Natalie at Beyond Trauma Hypnotherapy specialises in a trauma-informed approach, combining hypnotherapy with elements from somatic, parts-based, and mindfulness methods to meet you where you are—safely and respectfully.

How Does It Work?

Hypnotherapy involves gently guiding you into a calm, focused state—similar to daydreaming or deep meditation. In this state, the conscious mind becomes quieter, making it easier to connect with deeper emotional responses, patterns, or beliefs.

This can support:

  • Letting go of outdated patterns

  • Gaining clarity on inner conflicts

  • Encouraging emotional release or resolution

  • Reinforcing new, more helpful ways of thinking and feeling

Each session is tailored to your individual needs. Rather than using pre-written scripts, Natalie works with you to understand what’s really going on—then gently supports you to move toward insight, relief, and meaningful change.

Is It Safe?

Yes—clinical hypnotherapy is considered a low-risk, non-invasive process when practised by a qualified professional. You cannot get “stuck” in hypnosis, and you won’t say or do anything against your will. Most people find it deeply calming and leave sessions feeling more grounded, clear, and empowered.

Disclaimer: Hypnotherapy is a complementary therapy and is not a substitute for medical or psychological treatment. Individual results vary. It is not used to diagnose, treat, or cure any medical condition.

Hypnotherapy FAQs

What if I can’t be hypnotised?

Clinical Hypnotherapy is very different to stage hypnosis which is what most people think of when they think of Hypnotherapy. Stage hypnosis is a show and the participants appear to be under the control of the hypnotist, but they are not. In a Hypnotherapy session I guide you into a state of deep relaxation using techniques perfected by thousands of Hypnotherapists and Meditation Teacher’s before me. It is not possible to not be able to go into this state. It is a change in frequency or speed of brainwaves which is the natural functioning of your brain. I do not have control over your brain, that is a misconception.

Are you able to “fix” my problem ?

No. I - the Hypnotherapist - cannot fix your problem. First of all, nothing about you is a problem. Whatever your problem is - weight-issues, sleep issues, addictions etc - serves a purpose. It helps you in someway to deal with something, the problem you are experiencing is usually the way your mind has chosen to deal with an underlying issue; it is the symptom, not the problem itself. I teach your brain a new ways to deal with it that doesn’t have negative effects on your life, or better yet, I will help your brain naturally deal with the underlying cause. I am like a tour guide, taking your brain on the journey it needs to fix itself.

How much does it cost?

$130 for the first 90 minute session, then $95 for 60 minute follow-up sessions.

What happens in a session?

All sessions start with a discussion about your life; what happened this week, were you triggered, What was good, what wasn’t good. The reason for this conversation is because in trauma sufferers, the unprocessed memories play out in everyday life in many possible ways. Over-reactions, anger, over-eating, addictions, habits, and relationship problems. When telling me about these manifestations of trauma we have an opportunity to reprocess these memories and store them in the part of the brain where they should be so they are still there but no longer trigger you. We do this - and sometimes only this - in a session. We may also go into traditional Hypnotherapy which is like guided meditation to create “new” memories in the sub-conscious mind that set you up for new patterns of behaviour.

How many sessions will I need?

You decide when you feel like your issue is resolved and you don’t need to see me again. Sometimes there are many instances of trauma that need to be worked through, and other times there is only one thing wrecking havoc and once that is dealt with you are OK. Like exercise, Hypnotherapy is more effective the more it is repeated to reinforce the new beliefs and thought processes to your subconscious mind.

Do I have to think about or relive the traumatic event?

Absolutely not. Recent trauma research has found that regression therapy is not necessary to work-through trauma, however we can do this if you are able to emotionally cope with it and you believe it could be valuable for your personal situation.
